New Century FS has found a creative way to help foster team building among CDL drivers while also refreshing drivers on Department of Transportation requirements which helps improve their CSA scores and reduce potential violations.
During the rodeo, employees who are CDL holders break into teams and must complete tasks at five different stations ranging from roadside inspection to load securement processes to vehicle maintenance. While drivers work through the stations, managers have the opportunity to review vehicle binders for any updates which has helped reduce violations when drivers are pulled over for inspections.
To help inject an element of friendly competition, several Department of Transportation officers volunteer to judge the teams on how well they work together while simultaneously answering questions that arise. Matt Harken, GROWMARK senior safety specialist, was also on hand to give a presentation.
At the end of the event, scores are tabulated for each team with the top-scoring team earning new jackets and a traveling plaque to display at their location for the next calendar year. The team with the best teamwork also scores a steak dinner.
To celebrate the accomplishments of the day, the grills are fired up to reward everyone who participated in the event.
